Meet Hank - July 1, 2010

Hank is an adult male American Bulldog who came in to us just a mess.  He was LOADED with fleas and infections from flea and fly bites.  His feet were full of sores and his ears caked with yeast.  He has puss oozing out his eyes.  His ribs and backbone were showing and he was starving.  But as awful as he must have felt...he was a gentleman and happy to be around us.

The Great Lakes team moved in full force along with our vet to get Hank feeling better.  He tolerated all of the cleaning and poking like a champ.  It was like he knew we were helping and he was appreciative.

He's a great dog - and soon his outsides will match his insides.

Hank is feeling much better!  What a great dog!!!  He's been neutered and is healing really well.  He knows some basic commands and LOVES peanut butter flavored snacks!  Hank is not yet availalbe for adoption but you can come and meet him if you're interested in adopting him when he's ready.

Hank has a gaurdian angel who found him and brought him.  Not only has he continued to visit and play with Hank but he's also made dontaions to held us cover Hank's recovery.  We are grateful as is Hank.

Update - July 31, 2010

Hank was adopted!!!  His new family just fell in love with him and he seemed to love them right away too!  We're so thrilled for them and for Hank!!! :)

Meet Kally - July 23, 2010

Kally is a young adult female Daschund.  She was found in a parking lot on Erie's east side in horrible condition.  She was literally a rack of bones - one of the worst emaciated dogs we'd ever seen.  She has been hungry and scared for a very long time.  She was dehydrated and sunburnt.  But - as only dogs can - she is a ball of love.  She loves her bed and is resting in comfort now.  She is under intense care by our vets and recovering outside of the shelter with our manager, Kris.  She spent the first few days at Camboro being treated with IV's and constant monitoring.  We'll keep you posted on Kally's recovering - please keep her in your prayers.

Update August 30, 2010

Finally!!! Great news for Kallie!!!  Kallie has finally cleared her final round of blood work and has been given the all clear from our vet team!  Due to the severity of her condition when she finally got to us...she will always have a compromised immune system which will require constant medications and supervision...BUT she is happy and at a great healthy weight!  She is a social butterfly and loves to meet new people and animals.  Her foster family fell in love with Kallie and understand her special needs and have decided to keep her permanently.

Special thanks to everyone who inquired about Kallie and the prayers and support which helped make her recovery possible!

Meet Kassie - July 25, 2010

Kassie came to us as a stray from Clarion County.  She was brought after a tangle with a porcupine.  She had quills all over her face, in her ears and up her nose.  Her face was swollen too.  She was so matted it was AWFUL!  Our groomer, Jessica, said it was one of the worst cases she'd ever seen.
